In a significant historical event and a remarkable historical moment, as part of the governorate’s celebrations of the third anniversary of the liberation of the Hadhramaut Coast on April 24, the Governor of Hadhramaut and Commander of the Second Military Region, Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, inaugurated the Al-Ma’abar Bridge project in the Hajr District on April 30, 2019, as part of the governorate’s celebrations of the third anniversary of the liberation.
The Al-Ma’abar Bridge connects the Hajr District to the districts of the Hadhramaut Coast and also connects it to the international highway towards Aden Governorate. Hajr District has been deprived of such vital projects. The completion of this project represents a milestone and reflects the interest of the governorate’s local authority in the western districts, which have been deprived of vital projects.
The project cost $1.8 million, funded by the governorate’s local authority. It includes the construction of a suspension bridge with four openings for floodwater and a side culvert. The completion period was one year and three months.
The bridge, which the people of Hajar have given various names, including the Bridge of Light, Hope, and Life, due to its vital importance and the crucial role it will play in ending their suffering caused by the floods that have swept through this valley, is 130 meters long and 7 meters wide. It is supported by protective walls measuring 30 meters in length and 4 meters in height. The 700-meter-long highway, which included backfilling, compaction, and leveling, was implemented by the Yemeni Al-Amoudi Group for Contracting and Trading Limited, under the supervision of the Hadhramaut Coast Ministry of Public Works and Roads Office, and with the support of the local authorities in Hajar District.
The project opening was attended by Mr. Shafiq Hussein Al-Amoudi, General Manager of the Yemeni Al-Amoudi Group for Contracting and Trading Limited; Attorney Anwar Al-Shadli, General Manager of the Hajar District; Colonel Nasser Al-Shuaibi, General Manager of the Brom Mayfa District; the Secretary to the Governor, Mutia Baras; the Governor’s advisors; the directors of several executive offices; military and security leaders; sheikhs, dignitaries, social figures, and residents of the Hajar District and the Brom Mayfa and Yabath Districts.
